Any Democrats who knew about the torture regime and either signed off on it or did nothing to stop it should be prosecuted, up to and including any residents of the White or Blair houses.
I simply cannot understand why anyone would seek to defend the torture regime and those responsible for it. I especially cannot understand those for whom it is obviously a partisan exercise, who spend their efforts defending methods they simultaneously deny we ever used, all so that their side can escape responsibility.
If there ever was a time to get rid of every single politician in Washington, DC, now is that time. It's too bad that won't happen.
Update: Go read Glenn Greenwald on this problem. I suppose an argument could be made that some cancer cells should be left in the body in order to keep it from being too much of a shock when a malignant tumor is removed. It's a bad argument, too concerned with the status quo and too afraid of doing something difficult. And it puts way too much emphasis on the supposed value of expertise and experience. Tumors are very good at managing the body's resources, better at it than any other part. It seems that the only difference between the politicians we can't seem to live without and a malignant growth is PR. Or maybe in America's body politic there's just tumor.
