The weekend must begin right now. I have declared it; so shall it be.
I also wish to say that I adore Ike Willis' voice. And Frank's solo, which begins at 2:45.
We're taking the lads to see Alice in Wonderland tomorrow morning; other than that, I think it will be a make-it-up-as-we-go kind of weekend. The very best sort, in my opinion.
What will you be getting up to?
Being sick, for the most part. Have been all weak, and it's starting to really take it's toll.
Anyone have any good suggestions for dealing with a throat that is filled with flem? Every time I take a deep breath it is like my throat is filled with water. Any good foods to eat? Things to drink.
I am also thinking about, maybe trying to detach from the internet for a bit. Seriously, after reading about all the latest stuff going down, I am three-quarters convinced that widespread destruction and chaos, environmental and economic ruin is basically an ineluctable result of our mix of right-wing pathology, widespread public idiocy, mainstream media complicity in encouraging the two former, and obstruction-enabling governmental procedure. It's getting me bummed.
On the up side, I have always wanted to riot through the halls of the rich and powerful, and it seems the riots of the poor and disenfranchised will as likely a result of this clusterfuck as anything. So I got that going for me.

Corvus,
Sorry to hear that -- feel better. By the way "sick all weak" is a hilarious and appropriate typo.
Try a bit of bourbon with hot water and lemon. It can't hurt. I actually did that in the evenings during a trial in which I was starting to lose my voice. Worked reasonably well.
D.
I have one of my worlds collide days tomorrow -- a bat mitzvah ceremony in the morning for the daughter of one of my friends -- then drive to Baltimore to attend a "Bull and Oyster Roast" for the retired members of one of my local union clients at a really old school VFW post -- a stag event at which the guys drink pitchers of beer, eat oysters and pit beef, and play poker -- then a return to DC to attend the bat mitzvah reception.
Sunday I need to clean the house, which is really in need. And tonight a little Mexican food, a couple of margaritas, and hopefully, an early bed time and eight or nine hours of sleep. And maybe a quick post, if I can muster the energy.

corvus -- any warm liquids are good, and ze lemon. sudafed is great for drying up the cold-related faucet. steam usually helps, too. normally i prescribe chocolate mint chip ice cream for everything that ails ya, but the sad truth is that it is not great with the goop. sigh. although if it makes you feel better, who cares.
SC, that sounds like a very full and slightly weird day. i trust you won't be bringing a pitcher back to the bat mitzvah...

kathy,
I have to watch my alcohol intake tomorrow. First, because Baltimore is 42 miles away and I am really averse to any issues of that kind.
But almost as importantly, the hostess tomorrow evening a mere mile or so from my house) is a DC journalist and there are probably going to be a lot of Posties there. My wife will kill me if I act like myself.

SC, i think even a non-journalistic bat mitzvah reception is not an event ideally attended immediately after the afternoon occasion, which no doubt will still be rambling on for some time after you leave.
my plans for the weekend are to go to bed really early, like soon, because i feel yucky. and then to do a few work things, run a few errands, plus get my tax stuff together this weekend. and, um, that's all i can think about, even though i really should do something interesting and cool, to balance out the rest.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.
My wife will kill me if I act like myself.
Sir C, as the Americanist would say, LOL!
Posted by: Corvus9 | March 05, 2010 at 10:20 PM
i have to take exception, corvus. you mean LOL joyously; the americanist meant it spitefully and derisively, so let's leave him out and make LOL joyous again. get well, soon

I apologize, bbw. I did not mean to give offense.
Posted by: Corvus9 | March 05, 2010 at 11:02 PM
kathy,
Not you too.
I hope none of this is contagious.
There seems to be a ton of illness going around.
I am feeling small rumbles of spring coming though. It was light at 6:30 this morning -- alas soon to be fucked up by daylight savings time. And tonight on my Stanley rounds, there were several people just hanging outside one of the neighborhood restaurants, even though it's probably in the 30s. (No minor celeb sightings hower.)I think people here have just had enough. Almost all of the snow in my yard has now melted.
The LOL thing was amazing. It was like listening to a 13-year old saying "like." He clearly viewed it as a devastating retort.

i wasn't offended. i just don't want you sullied by him. we can retake laughter; kind of like bono "stealing" back helter skelter on rattle and hum :)
Posted by: big bad wolf | March 05, 2010 at 11:10 PM
Does anybody remember laughter?
Posted by: Sir Charles | March 05, 2010 at 11:22 PM
the song remains the same

But the road goes on forever.

over the hills and far away

I believe we just between us quoted verbatim Robert Christgau's review of "The Song Remains the Same" -- which he gave a C+. Indeed we did.

It scares me that I can regurgitate this stuff from reflex over 30 years later. I am becoming like one of those WWII era guys for whom the 1940s become ever clearer, while in the present they can't remember what they had for lunch yesterday.
Posted by: Sir Charles | March 06, 2010 at 12:02 AM
have we met? who are you and why do you bring this up?
that's frightening. i wasn't trying. either my memory that particular review, which i had surely read, was deeply buried but easily accessed or every negative criticism of zep over the years is true, which doesn't make them any less great.
i don't fear getting old. i fear tom brokaw

bbw,
Except you know we never have to fear being labelled "the Greatest Generation." In fact the Post had an article a couple of years ago describing our age cohort as far less accomplished and far more prone to bad behavior than other generations around us.
As I read it began singing "I'm a member of the Blank Generation and I can take it or leave it each time."
Posted by: Sir Charles | March 06, 2010 at 08:25 AM
the post isn't all bad, if it gets you singing a good tune.
but were they bad enough to posit that ours was an unaccomplished and feckless generation because we had no war to fight? :)
Posted by: big bad wolf | March 06, 2010 at 11:01 AM
and did they note that the very sober and very accomplished mr. obama is of our age cohort? he and i are only two weeks apart, so averaging him in, i think anyone born in the summer of 61 is doing fine. so well, in fact, that i think i shall go have a breakfast drink.
Posted by: big bad wolf | March 06, 2010 at 11:13 AM
Well someone needs to counterbalance the Jack Abramoffs (born in '59), David Addingtons (born in '57), Ralph Reeds (born in '61), & Grover Norquists (born in '56)!
