Is "Palin" Inuit for Train Wreck?

You have to watch this:

The woman clearly has no discernible irony meter.

And then read this essay by Rebecca Traister at Salon, particularly if you are inclined to have any sympathy for this right wing know nothing.  It's a brilliant piece about why pity is not in order.

For a whole host of reasons having nothing to do with Sarah Palin, I would never in John McCain's lifetime vote for John McCain. But if, somehow, that were not the case and Sarah Palin actually were to become a factor in who I would vote for, that voice alone would be enough to push me to vote for Obama, or Barr, or Nader, or anybody but McCain. That voice, that diction, that mangling of the language are not going to wear well. The thought of four, or eight, or sixteen years of the Carol Channing of the north country addressing the nation is just too horrifying.

That voice, that diction, that mangling of the language are not going to wear well.

Actually, I can't help hearing elements of Canadian, and also the Great Lakes/Upper Midwest Buffaloese my dad's family speaks (& spoke). I've had coworkers from Rochester, NY, too. To me she sounds very familiar. It's the words, rather than how she says them, that I find frightening and appalling.

As I read yesterday (at Sully's blog?), someone wrote that it isn't really so much that she doesn't know the answers to the questions she's asked (by Couric, Gibson, etc.) IT'S THAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW THE QUESTIONS!!

I don't know the answers to a lot of those questions, and I daresay a lot or most of us don't, BUT WE KNOW THE QUESTIONS. We know these questions exist and that political leaders need to know them, too!

(NATIONAL political leaders, anyway!)

(BTW, in that dialect "Rochester" is pronounced "RAH-chester". It's a very distinct accent.)
