Since the agreement between Senate Democrats, House Democrats, Senate Republicans, Treasury, and the White House appears to have been scuttled by a subset of House Republicans who were unwilling to play ball, I think this observation is in order:
The one group of interested parties who have not fully been involved in the negotiations have been House Republicans. This is largely because they are a death cult who should be put to the flame by rational men.
The whole post is worth a read.
The ideal scenario for the Democratic party is for the GOP to be reduced to the right-wing cranks in the RSC, who then spend at least a decade in the wilderness before realizing that the business of running the country requires them to set aside their adolescent free-market fantasies and start behaving like adults. Whether or not this would be good for the country is unclear (it would be good whenever the Republican party held fewer than 40 seats in the Senate. In other times, maybe, maybe not).
