Monday Miscellany [Because Stephen must be spent]

I am trying to keep my hands busy as I have vowed to resist the demon rum (or any of its cousins) until at least Friday.  Also, I have to believe that Stephen must be exhausted after his stellar effort below, off somewhere smoking the metaphorical cigarette of satisfaction.  So I will poach his Monday miscellany slot.  I am soberly pondering the following:

- The Washington Post's twelve part -- yes twelve -- series on the unsolved Chandra Levy murder case.  Can anyone think of a major American newspaper devoting a twelve part series to any subject, even those of the most cosmic implications?  I am told that there are members of the Post's staff who share my bafflement.    What's next, a month of Natalee Holloway?  A major series on OJ's progress to date in finding the real killers?  Inquiring minds want to know.

- On second thought, better Chandra Levy than Iraq when it comes to the Post.

- Why do conservatives love America but hate Americans

- I know this is a hobby horse of mine, but what would the media have done if Barack Obama erroneously spoke of a difficult situation on the "Iraq - Pakistan" border?  Jesus.

- I loved this headline - "President Bush Stable at 28%" - as I noted in Roy's post on this poll, isn't that like saying Jim Morrison's condition remains stable after thirty seven years?

- Is there no claim too stupid for a right winger to make?

- I'll drink to that! Oh wait -- but notorious Serbian scumbag Radovan Karadzic was arrested today for war crimes.  It will be interesting to see if the Serbs fully cooperate with the U.N. War Crimes Tribunal.

- Obama's up by eight in Ohio -- Ohio woud be game, set, and match.

Time for Weeds, kids -- maybe I'll get a contact high.

War crimes trials! At long last! Oh, wait...

Once again, Europe is ahead of us. :-(

In the interest of fairness, I tuned into the press conference in time to hear Obama make a gaffe: he said "Israel will always be friends with Israel" or something like that, saying Israel the first time when he meant America. So far I haven't noticed anyone in the media jumping on what was clearly a jet lag moment.

Anyway.

Although the odds are pretty good that Israel will remain friends with Israel. Although they can be a pretty contrary people. :-)

In the spirit of miscellany: hey, anybody see Dark Knight? What did you think (of its awesomeness)?

Haven't seen it yet Corvus. Maybe this weekend if the kid wants to go.

Robert took the boys to see it this Sunday. They all loved it and said it was by far the best Batman movie ever, an maybe even one of their all-time-top-three-Best-Movies-EVAH.

In fact, they are all going to see it again, this time in the IMAX theatre.

Considering how seldom R says good things about a movie, the fact that he's eager to see it again so soon speaks volumes, I think.

(All four said Heath Ledger was beyond brilliant.)
