As a further thought on the continuing Jeremiah Wright saga: what Obama has said and done has been hurtful and, I believe, a bit dishonest. However, Jeremiah Wright was Obama's pastor, his spiritual leader and mentor. That's a significant responsibility, one that requires personal sacrifice. For Wright to attack Obama and generally make an ass of himself to repair his own reputation is a betrayal of what it means to be a shepherd over God's flock.
Being a pastor should mean that even when a member of your congregation hurts you, you don't respond in kind. You don't sabotage that member's goals and ambitions in order to enhance your own standing and reputation. It's a shame that Pastor Wright has forgotten this.
