"Young Adult Friction" - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
Ah, the rain has finally stopped here for a moment. Woke to thunder and lightning this morning. It didn't exactly make me want to hop up out of bed.
- It seems to me that now that the U.S. along with its European allies has embarked on military action in Libya, there is little choice but to make sure that Qaddafi is deposed. And this again leads to a question regarding the wisdom of taking what Jeffrey Goldberg rightly describes as a "seventh-tier problem" for the U.S. and elevating it well beyond the scope of any rational national self-interest. It also once again reinforces the notion of military intervention as the solution to a host of ills, a tendency that just doesn't need to be reinforced at this time. Oh, and it's expensive.
- The amazing anti-union push by Republicans in the industrial Great Lakes region continues unabated, with Indiana once again on the front lines. As I've noted earlier, I would guess that Republicans generally pull about 40% of the vote of union households in places like Indiana -- probably a little higher among union members who are in the building trades or the police and fire services. I've got to believe that these direct and aggressive attacks against people's livelihoods is going to translate into a precipitous drop in Republican support in these households, something that I believe is going to be of enormous consequence in 2012 throughout the region.
- On a lighter note, I saw both Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer this weekend. Both were rather entertaining as long as you don't overthink them. Since I was deeply in the mood not to think I enjoyed them both.
