I understand why John would call those who voted against Nancy Pelosi as Minority Leader 'clowns,' but it's really a sign of something different, something which I at least think is a key point about the Democratic party. The 18 votes against Nancy Pelosi are another sign that the main opposition to the Democratic party is to be found within the Democratic party. In and of itself, that's not a bad thing.
The problem, as always, is the Republican party. The GOP is run by nothing less than power hungry, money-grubbing traitors, people who will gladly and repeatedly sell out American prosperity and security - not to the highest bidder, but merely the first bidder. The Nelsons and Schulers of the Democratic party wouldn't be such a pain if the standard for 'conservative' wasn't to advocate for whatever policy causes massive destruction and human suffering.
