"Human Wheels" - John Mellencamp (D. Indiana)
My favorite Mellencamp song -- undeservedly obscure for some reason.
This land today, shall draw its last breath
And take into its ancient depths
This frail reminder of its giant, dreaming self.
While I, with human-hindered eyes
Unequal to the sweeping curve of life,
Stand on this single print of time.
I always loved the phrase "with human-hindered eyes -- unequal to the sweeping curve of life."
With his terrific band, including drum god Kenny Aronoff, whom I have had the pleasure of seeing with both Mellencamp and Marshall Crenshaw. (He was a little too powerful for Crenshaw at times.)
Anyway, I suspect that Mellencamp would be a better senator than Brad Ellsworth. However, I also get the sense that he has a very low bullshit quotient, which can't really make the Senate seem very attractive.
