I'm listening closely to Ringo's percussion work in this one, and Corvus is absolutely correct: what genius drumming. Apparently, Rain is one of Ringo's favorites, too.
To get a little perspective as to the level of natural talent we're talking about here--because the bare-bones, low-tech nature of the equipment meant one had to be really, really good--keep in mind that this song was recorded, in mono, in 1966. I was only five. Hell, I remember dancing around the living room to The Beatles whenever they were on Top of the Pops (The Kinks and The Rolling Stones, too), with coffee-table edges looming closer to my head than my shins. Whoa, I am old.
Old, but not entirely ossified in the skull or soul, and still able to be enlightened and even, sometimes, surprised. Thank you, Corvus.
