I just wanted to extend a brief but sincere and totally non-political Thanksgiving Day wish to all on behalf of all of the Cogbloggers. Whether you are celebrating with family or friends or just a beloved pet, may you find one or two or a thousand things for which to be grateful and may we all wish for the happiness of those who are less fortunate than we, who are afflicted at this time by illness, loneliness, joblessness, or sadness of any kind.
I am very glad for, among other things, our little family here.
Thank you, Sir C., and thanks to all of you, for letting in this grumpy old uncle and making him feel at home. Many things to be thankful for, maybe the greatest being the survival of Kittenz, the glue that holds our house together, but one of them is you folks.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's nearly 2 am, and I'm only now sitting down to my laptop after a day of, well, you know. If all goes well, there will be traditional everything tomorrow--not bad for a non-Colonist!--but the dish(es) of which I'm most proud are the pumpkin pies. I'd never had any permutation of pumpkin before we moved to the States, and to this day, it's one of my favorite American goodies--right up there with peanut butter, another brilliant foodstuff. I roasted small pie pumpkins this year, since there was a good crop in the Southeast; tomorrow I'll purée them and make the custard. And I just finished cleaning up the countertops after making pie crust (no easy feat in warm, sticky Florida, as oddjob will attest--he's always complaining about how hard it is to make good pie in summer climates, and he's right).
Ramble, ramble, ramble...okay, time for bed.
A very happy Thanksgiving and my warmest wishes and thanks, too, to my fellow Cogbloggers and of course all our clever, funny, contrarian, and completely wonderful readers.

I'm thankful for me and my kids being alive (after a near miss), of having friends and family who were support, of having a community that helped. I'm thankful for work and the love of a good man.
I'll eat with Tim's family today (it's a potluck and I always get asked to make scalloped potatoes)and as tomorrow is Dad's Birthday (and my siblings will have done T'giving with their in-laws) we'll go up to NC to do it all over again, with an even larger mess of scalloped potatoes..
Love and peace y'all.

MR bill, that sounds really scary. glad all is well.
litbrit, the pies sound yummy! freshly roasted pumpkin is fabulous. i cheated and used canned, but that was better than cheating by buying a pie.

Yeah, the family's here. The food was good, plus they're so loud+deaf you can sneak off easy.
