"Psalms 40:2" - Mountain Goats
Rounded out my Thanksgiving festivities by seeing the Mountain Goats in a small club in Philadelphia last night. It was an extraordinary show. John Darnielle brings such a strange combination of joy in performing while singing songs in which anger, frustration, and substance abuse figure prominently.
They ended the evening with the "Best Ever Death Metal Band out of Denton" and the raucous shouts of "Hail Satan!" from an adoring audience.
If you get the chance to see them, especially in this full band format (the drummer is superb and really brings a lot to the sound -- they have also added a lead guitarist who is very restrained and tasteful), by all means do.
Have a great Sunday. I'll be riding the "Superbus" from the City of Brotherly Love back to DC. It beats driving at least.
Geez!! Thanks for telling your faithful readers you were going to be in the City of Brotherly Love! Some of us would have gladly joined you for a brewski.

Calvin,
Sorry -- it was a real drive by visit. Arrived by train around 3:00 on Saturday, dinner with old friends, off to the show, on a noon time bus on Sunday.
I have vowed to go up there some time for a drinking liberally stop in -- preferably during warmer weather. I used to get up there pretty often on business, but for some reason haven't had anything cooking there for a while. I would love to grab a beer on the next visit.

No amtrak for you Sir C? IN the Northeast, the trains are light years ahead of the stone-age rail-transit on the opposite coast. Since I moved to D.C. last June, I haven't missed an opportunity to use it to go to NYC or Boston. Not as good as the Spanish or British systems, but far preferable to the Superbus. Oh well, nice to know your thanksgiving went well.

I took AmTrak up to New Rochelle and then down to Philly. I love the train and it is my preferred mode of travel to either Philly or NYC.
However, the tickets from Philly to DC for today were going to run $400 for three of us, as opposed to $45 for the bus. It wasn't a tough call.
