Bob McDonnell, Republican candidate for governor in Virginia, is busily disavowing his masters thesis at Pat Robertson's diploma factory, Regent University. (The school where one must sign a paper indicating that you accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior as part of the admissions process.)
McDonnell denounces working women, feminists, cohabitators, homosexuals, and fornicators in his magnum opus, arguing for public policies against each. Now I don't know about you, but to me that group sounds like a majority coalition.
My initial reaction was that this was a fun story that would make McDonnell sweat. But after reading the excerpts in the TPM link, I am beginning to think it might well be fatal to his candidacy. Seriously, this is full-on wingnuttery of the most fanatical kind. McDonnell has spent many years perfecting a guise of reasonableness (not unlike Bush's compassionate conservative pose), but I think this is going to be absolute poison in Northern Virginia where, to date, McDonnell has polled surprisingly well. Once the fornicators get a look at the wingnut within I suspect that they will not be amused.
