I went out tonight and exercised a couple of my best skills -- drinking and check writing. Tonight, however, this was done in the pursuit of a truly good cause, the candidacy of labor lawyer and all-around mensch Tom Geoghegan for the congressional seat in Chicago recently vacated by Rahm Emanuel. Geoghegan is an unabashed friend of working people, a passionate believer in a social order geared to justice, dignity, and equality. He spoke tonight of the opportunity that our current crisis presents to move beyond the deep policy tepidness of our recent past and push for an agenda in which we deliver actual tangible results for average Americans.
I had the pleasure of seeing a lot of my union-side brethren, as well as talking for quite a while with Chris Hayes of the Nation, who is a very smart and pleasant guy. It was the least cynical fund raising crowd I can ever imagine in DC -- not a high priced lobbyist in the crowd.
I know many of you are probably tapped out after the recent election and I know that times are tough for many. But for those of you who can afford to send $10, $25, or $50 (or more), here is the link to the Act Blue site for Geoghegan. And for all things Geoghegan, make sure you check in on Kathy G.'s site.
Seriously, a Geoghegan victory here would be a huge deal. Anything you can do would be great for the cause.
