This is the third straight poll showing Mitch McConnell in a tight race. This means there's now a plausible scenario in which Democrats take sixty Senate seats this cycle, excluding Joe Lieberman. They'll have to win the five favored races (Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Alaska), sweep the three toss-ups (Oregon, North Carolina, and Minnesota), then take either win both the special election in Mississippi or knock off the Minority Leader in Kentucky. With few incumbents up for reelection in 2010, and Dems likely to field strong challengers in Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, Florida, and Ohio, and the possibility of taking back seats in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Missouri, and North Carolina, we may be looking at a brief moment of Democratic dominance not seen since Lyndon Johnson was President.
