It's a somewhat banal point, but Barack Obama is really good counterpunching:
Don't hate the player, hate the game, y'all.

Ahem, I'd suggest THEIR homework not THEY'RE homework might be a more correct title. Wouldn't want to be ignorant like Republicans,eh?

He's the best counterpuncher I've ever seen.
There comes a time, though, to go after the other guy first. He needs to get better at that - to define McCain and hang him with his own words, before the battle's even been joined.
At any rate, let me add one more thing about the tire gauges. The GOP also says it hates to see government do anything when the actions of individuals would suffice. So here's a place where individuals can act in a way that could make a difference, Obama's encouraging it, and they're making fun of it.
That's sheer cynicism - they're tearing down everything because they don't believe in anything.

More like this, more often Obama. And don't hesitate to use the "l" word. Because they is lying ignorant bastards ever last one of them.

I was really happy he said the word "lie". Someone needs to say it. I'm glad he's less reticent than previous politicians. Plain language is better.

Love this. Love this beyond words. I agree with ltc, but I also think Obama did the right thing here, calling them on their stupidity and actually using the word "ignorance." (Though I am pissed at him for yet another cave -- first FISA, now drilling -- what next?)

When can we make fun of videos that are in the wrong aspect ratio?
I'm personally sick of people making the error.

It was intentional to make him look less skinny?

Does anyone else kind of wish they could get their hands on one of those tire gauges? I could use a tire gauge.

Corvus, I got a nice letter from the thoughtful folks at Townhall, offering me my very own Obama tire gauge if I would donate $25 to their Elect McCain! campaign (or whateverthefuck it's called).
If they were giving them away free just to be assholes to Obama, I'd have proudly accepted one.
To my mind, the tire gauge is a good metaphor for Obama's general approach to a number of things: simple, effective and cost effective, right in front of your goddamned nose, take responsibility for your own car's efficiency, do it right now and start making a difference, etc. etc. And oh yes, it draws ignorant laughter from the ignorant Rethugs. Oh well.
Can we send them all off to another planet so they can globally warm and catastrophically pollute that to their shrivelled little hearts' content? I don't see why they deserve to share the clean air and water and affordable electric cars we're going to have soon--they've fought it all at every turn, yet they will benefit as much as the person who lived his life creating as little a carbon footprint as possible.
