To borrow and paraphrase Landover Baptist's memorable holiday message, Barack Obama did not die for your sins. While I am quite sure that anyone reading this will wonder why I feel the need to write it, that's merely more unfortunate evidence that a distressing number of Senator Obama's supporters lack the self-awareness necessary to see the ways in which they've invested their soteriological hopes of this nation and their souls in not only his candidacy, but in Obama's very person.
It's the Clinton Rules in reverse: no matter how small, how insignificant, how obviously tongue-in-cheek or intentionally provocative to make a point, when something that can possibly be perceived as negative is written or said about the Lion of the Tribe of Illinois, the Bright and Morning Star, the unrestricted and unexamined wrath of a thousand angry souls is unleashed upon the blasphemer.
So to the dismay of, apparently, no one, I'm taking a break. There's certainly enough talented writers on this site to keep everyone's interest without me hindering the march to the New Jerusalem. I'll be back around when the King of the Dems, the Lamb who will be Elected for our Salvation, the Great Physician for our Discourse, the Candidate of Candidates and Nominee of Nominees, is returned to human status - or when my heart is finally softened enough for me to ask the Author and Perfecter of Our Politics to save this poor soul from damnation. Whichever comes first.
I'd actually like Obama to be our next President, and I think he will be. But he's not only just a human being, he's also just another politician. People would be well advised to accept that now instead of having it forced upon them after he takes office.
