Tramp the Dirt down - Elvis Costello
So Scottie's new book was the talk of the tube this evening, driving home the point once again that there is ever so much to despise about the puny man who is our President and his cabal of moral and intellectual pygmies. But the thing that stood out for me was Bush's desire for the glories of a war presidency with epoch changing possibilities. What could be more revelatory about the man's deficiencies as a human being that he sees the onslaught of mass death and maiming as his chance for a moment in the historical sun.
I could not find a suitable song about Bush himself to fully express my disgust -- but this little ditty by Elvis about Margaret Thatcher will do for now. And with respect to our benighted chief executive, let me just quote E.C.:
Well I hope I don't die too soon, I pray the lord my soul to save,
Oh, I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave,
Because there's one thing I know I'd like to live long enough to savour,
That's when they finally put you in the ground,
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down.
Yeah, that about says it. Bastard.
