As you can see, Barack Obama did much better in Indiana than he did in Pennsylvania or Ohio. It's rural areas look much more like Missouri than the Lower Midwest. Outside of Indianapolis and Gary, Obama fared much better in the modest size towns, winning Fort Wayne and Eklhart, coming close in Evansville, and not getting blown out in Muncie, Terre Haute, Marion, etc. The two counties just North of Indy is a set of well-off suburbs. And of course there were big wins in Bloomington and Lafayette.
Obama also won South Bend.
I would guess, given how close Vanderburgh County was, that Obama probably actually won the city of Evansville, and that Clinton's margin was entirely in the county.

It is worth pointing out that Obama performance in Northern Indiana suggests that he would have done well in Michigan.
And the Chicago media market didn't seem to help much. Obama didn't do especially well with whites in NW Indiana but actually won the 90%+ white 3rd CD in NE Indiana as well as the 95%+ white 5th CD northeast of Indianapolis.
